On Sunday, Sept. 29, I’m flying to Denver and then taking a long shuttle bus ride to Estes Park to attend the 2024 American Ornithological Society meeting. I’m very excited. Emmy-winning host of the National Geographic series “Extraordinary Birder” Christian Cooper will be keynoting. Meeting him would be, as he might put it, FANTABULOUS! There are several important sessions I want to attend, including one about the proposed English name changes for birds that are currently named for people (I wrote a post about that here), and one about bird collisions. I’ll get to connect with lots of acquaintances and friends.
The last time I went to one of these meetings, the organization was still called the American Ornithologists’ Union—that was in 2006. I’d been to several over the years, starting with one in Madison, Wisconsin, in 1978. I still have a folder from that one!
Anyway, I probably won’t post anything during the coming week, but this will give me lots of ideas for when I return.
My colleague at the National Aviary, Steve Latta, is en route there, too!
Have a lovely time, Laura. That is beautiful country there.
