Holy smoke, Laura! I feel your pain and anger. Here in Rhode Island, 900 miles further away, a dark yellow haze descended upon us. The air smelled strange, but the air quality index was nowhere near as bad as where you are. A single monarch flew nervously around my milkweed patch. Sensing something missing in the general fear-based climate story, I did some digging and recorded my experience, discoveries and reflections. https://wendynadhernyfachon.substack.com/p/smokeany-skies-and-living-soil ...still processing...

Thinking about you all there in the heat and smoke, especially your daughter and others who are vulnerable….. and yes, the birdies.❤️🙏❤️

Thank you for letting us know about the air quality where you live. It was reported that Minneapolis had the worst air quality in the world a couple days ago but it sounds like the AQI was worse in your area. Hopefully it will get better soon. I have also been worried about the birds and little creatures who can't go hide inside. But our feeders have been full of hummingbirds, woodpeckers, finches, wrens, etc. I have tried to make sure that all the bird baths are filled with clean water every day in the hope that this will help them survive the terrible smoky air and heat.

Thank you for caring about the birds and sharing your beautiful photos.
