So fun! I love Gray Jays, Canadian Jays, Camp Robbers.... aka, everything else.. for many years. They are so fun! The first time I saw a fledged young one I thought it was a new bird. So black and sweet! We used to have so many in our yard. I haven't seen them most of this summer or any at all last winter, which was different
Your blog jogged my memory of a trip my husband & I took to Yellowstone. We had spent 4 or 5 days in Idaho with family and drove across Idaho to ultimate goal: Yellowstone National Park. During that visit, we stopped at a picnic area to set up lunch. Canada (Gray, back then) Jays showed up immediately looking for food. They were actually thieves! Swiping chips or pecking at the apples. We were yelled at by other folks, to not feed the birds. It was hard not to entice the beautiful bird closer.
